High Court rejects bail plea of cricket coach in sexual assault case

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday refused to grant bail to cricket coach Nazeer, 30, who has been arrested on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor boy.

However, the court gave liberty to the accused to move an application for bail before the jurisdictional court after the police file their final investigation report.

Justice Budihal R.B. passed the order while disposing of the petition filed by Nazeer, a resident of Bahubalinagar, near Jalahalli.

The accused, who runs a cricket academy, had taken the 13-year-old boy to GKVK grounds for a cricket match on January 27. On their way back, in the van belonging to the accused, Nazeer allegedly touched the boy inappropriately, promising that he would prepare him for IPL tournament if he cooperated.

Disturbed with the coach’s conduct, the boy had narrated the incident to his parents, who lodged a police complaint January 28. The accused was booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
