Polluted lake near Tughlaqabad Fort unacceptable

Manoj Kumar, the Petitioner has filed a PIL before the Delhi HC claiming that there was a forested area near Tughlaqabad Fort on DDA land and local residents were running illegal factories using chemicals and their polluted, hazardous water was flowing into the forest which has created an “artificial lake”.

A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva Delhi High Court termed the presence of pollutants in the lake next to Tughlagabad Fort “unacceptable”.

The court has left it to the city government to come up with a plan for cleaning the lake.  The court observed that nothing has happened in spite of last years directions of the courts, when the issue was brought to its attention.

The court said “Nothing is happening. Nobody wants to do anything. Is your government not interested in cleaning up the water? Water lying there is unacceptable.”

Delhi government has been given time till November 4 to submit its plan after holding a meeting of the persons concerned.
